Who Won The 2024 World Women's Curling Championship?
The 2024 World Women's Curling Championship ended yesterday in Sydney, Canada after just over a week of competition amongst 13 national teams. This was the 46th edition of the annual event and the first to be held in the Nova Scotia city, although it had been in Canada a previous 17 times.
Entering 2024, Team Canada's 17 titles and 36 overall podium finishes had them firmly the all-time medal winner, followed by Teams Sweden and Switzerland with 25 and 17 overall medals, respectively. The Swiss came to Sydney as the quadruple defending champions, skipped by Silvana Tirinzoni. In this year, Team Canada again won the title, but for the first time since 2018, with Tirinzoni's Swiss team coming up just short. The South Koreans bronze was their third podium finish in five years. Congratulations to the 2024 medalists! Complete results can be found at worldcurling.org.

The ISU 2024 World Figure Skating Championships ended yesterday after a week of competition in Montreal, Canada. A version of the now-annual event has been held since 1896; with women's singles starting in 1906, pairs in 1908 and ice dance in 1952. Montreal had previously hosted the championships in 1932.
Team United States entered 2024 with the highest overall medal count (206) and titles (58) across all current four events* (men's, women's, pairs, and ice dance). Teams Austria and Canada, among current national teams, follow with 116 and 110, respectively. In 2024, Team USA's placement in three of the four overall discipline podiums out them as the overall medal winner. Teams Canada and Japan were the only other squads to win more than one medal. Congratulations to all the medalists! A quick recap is below, and complete results can be found at isu.org. A special nod should go to Team France's Adam Siao Him Fa, whose jump from down in the pack to the men's singles podium was one for the record books... *p.s. Again, the Olympic event of Team Figure Skating was not included on the worlds' schedule. Why not? If it's worth Olympic inclusion, shouldn't it be featured at worlds? Then again...maybe it's not worth...oh well...
