More: The US Championships started with men's competition in 1881, and added women's in 1887. 2014 champions are the U.S' Serena Williams with her sixth title, and Marin Cilic of Croatia with his first ever win at a major.

Fun Fact: Through 2014, 36 different U.S. men - and 36 different U.S. women - have won singles titles at the Open / Championships.

What: Les Internationaux de France de Tennis, Roland Garros

Where: Paris, France

When: May 24 - June 07, 2015

More: The French Open is the second tennis Grand Slam event in the calendar year.  The first 'French Open' was in 1891, with women's competition added in 1897 and invitations to non-French in 1925. The current Roland-Garros site was first used in 1928.

Fun Fact: The use of the site in 1928 was provided on the condition that the new stadium be named after a celebrated Stade Francais former member; the honor fell onto Roland Garros, most widely known as an aviator who died in combat in 1918.

More: The first Grand Slam on the tennis calendar, this event has been held annually since 1905 (with women's play starting in 1922). As with other slams, there are men's women's, doubles (of each), mixed doubles, junior boys and girls, masters, and wheelchair events.

Fun Fact: A hard court surface tournament, the Australian Open started as a grass event, through 1987 before switching to hard court.
