Who Won The 2024 FIS Ski Flying World Championships?
The 2024 FIS Ski Flying Championships ended today after four days of action on the Kulm hill in Bad Mitterndorf, Austria. The inaugural championships were held in 1972; this was the sixth time that the Austrian city has hosted the now-biennial event (1975, 1986, 1996, 2006, 2016).
Ski flying, a specific extended version of ski jumping with the potential for greater distances from longer and higher hills, is not an Olympic discipline, but the championships is a key stop on the ski jump circuit. Ski flying is the remaining Nordic skiing discipline only offered for men. Though Team Austria entered 2024 with an overall medal total of 22, Team Norway's 10 golds (20 overall) has them with the most titles. This year, though, the Norwegians were left off the podiums, with Teams Austria, Slovenia, and Germany all earning two medals each across the individual and team competitions. Ski flying world record-holder (and Beijing 2022 gold medalist) Stefan Kraft took the individual title, while Team Slovenia won the team event. Congratulations to the 2024 medalists! A quick recap is below, and complete results can be found online at fis-ski.com.
