About a Fan and His Blog
I'm an Olympic and global sports fan, keeping track of competitions and events through the year. I live in the San Francisco Bay Area, but travel around the world when I can (but can often be found in front of the tv or computer watching sports).
I have an eye on the calendar of current major international sports events, especially in light of Olympic qualification and competition. Along the way, I'll post some thoughts on relevant results, news, and developments I find interesting. I've worked within sports marketing for over 10 years, including on Olympic media programming, so maybe I'll have a unique insight here and there. And maybe a bias or two that you may spot amongst the sports or athletes I highlight.
What I like in Olympic sports: the internationalism, the community of sports making the world smaller, good and clean and diverse competition, and underdog stories. I like it when athletes from smaller or unexpected countries make good news.
What I don't like in Olympic sports: crass commercialism, the politicking, the cheating - even when 'everyone else is doing it', the still-long-strides to make against sexism and homophobia, and the extreme lack of competitive diversity in some sports (I'm looking at you, softball).
