Condolences to family and fans of Hungarian water polo as this week sees two legends pass away. Gyorgy Karpati, three-time gold medalist passed away at age 84. In addition to his golds from Helsinki 1952, Melbourne 1956, and Tokyo 1964 (and a bronze from Rome 1960), Karpati was inducted to the International Swimming Hall of Fame in 1982. And, another three-time champion (Sydney 2000, Athens 2004, Beijing 2008), Tibor Benedek passed at age 47. Benedek also served as the national team's head coach at Rio 2016.
And more condolences as Marlene Ahrens passed away as well. A two-time Pan American gold medlaist, Ahrens is still the only Chliean woman to win an Olympic medal, with her silver in the javelin at Melbourne 1956.
