More: 207 national teams competing across 306 events in 28 sports, with more than 10,500 athletes expected. Competition will be held across a total of 38 venues within Rio de Janeiro and additional cities hosting football matches. Rugby sevens and golf are new sports on the agenda, in addition to Summer Olympic stalwarts track & Field, swimming, gymnastics, football, volleyball, and more.
Fun Fact: These are the first Olympics to be held in a Portuguese-speaking country, the first in South America, the first under new IOC president Thomas Bach, and the largest Games ever.
