April 10:  European Weightlifting Championships

What:  The European Weightlifting Championships

Where: Forde, Norway

When:  April 10-16, 2016

More:  The Championships have been held annually since 1896, but this is only the second time Norway has hosted. (1st in 1996)

Fun Fact:  A record number of athletes - 411 - are expected to compete, from over 40 countries.

November 20:  World Weightlifting Championships

What: The IWF World Weightlifting Championship 2015

Where: Houston, Texas USA

When: November 20 - 28, 2015

More: Today, the annual competition is held in eight weight classes for men and seven for women.

Fun Fact: The first competition was held in 1891, and won by Edward Levy of England. With 274, the Soviet Union holds the most medals overall to-date.

What: The 26th Women's & 45th Men's Asian Weightlifting Championships

Where: Phuket, Thailand

When: September 06 - 12, 2015

More: Seven women's and eight men's weight divisions to be contested over the six days of competition

Fun Fact: Thailand has hosted the event five times previously, yet in either Bangkok (4x) or Chiang Mai (1x). North Korea was the leading nation at the last edition, in 2013 in Astana.

What: Senior European Weightlifting Championships

Where: Tbilisi, Georgia

When: April 10 - 18, 2015

More: This will be the 94th Championships since 1896, the 18th with women's events, and the first in Georgia.

Fun Fact: Long a power in the sport - and long facing drug issues, Bulgaria is not competing in the Championships, after 11 (!) lifters failed tests in the weeks leading up to the event.
