What: The 28th Southeast Asian Games

Where: Singapore

When: June 05 - 16, 2015

Competing: Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Timor Este, Vietnam

More: Around 7000 athletes are expected to compete in 402 events across 36 sports. Sports contested are predominantly Olympic ones, but the calendar also includes regionally popular sports such as wushu, water skiing, billiards and sepak takraw.

Fun Fact: Singapore has hosted the Games three times before, the last in 1993. Thailand has been the most successful nation, with over 5000 medals total, and a lead of more than 600 over Indonesia.

June 01:  Games of the Small States of Europe

What: The 16th Games of the Small States of Europe

Where: Reykjavik, Iceland

When: June 01 - 06, 2015
Competing: Andorra, Cyprus, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg, Malta, Monaco, Montenegro, and San Marino

More: This multi-sport competition started in 1985, in San Marino as an opportunity to highlight sports in the smaller nations in Europe usually overshadowed in larger competitions. Montenegro was added as the ninth nation for the 2011 edition, in Liechtenstein.

Fun Fact: Iceland also hosted in 1997.  For these Games, Iceland has added golf and artistic gymnastics to the schedule, for a total of 11 sports.  Cyprus and Iceland are the two leading nations on the all-time medal table, with 1084 and 1029 medals, respectively.

What: The XXVII Winter Universiade


Where: Granada, Spain


When: February 04 - 14, 2015


More: These are the multi-sport winter sports version of the International University Sports Federation's 'World University Games', and feature the typical Olympic events of winter


Fun Fact: Despite being the only bid to host the competition, Granada will actually share responsibilities with Štrbské Pleso and Osrblie in Slovakia, which will host nordic skiing and biathlon. (Um, if they couldn't find a host suitable for all the events. doesn't that indicate a problem with interest??)

What: The XXII Central American and Caribbean Games

Where: Veracruz, Mexico

When: November 14 - 30, 2014

More: Expected to compete are more than 5,500 athletes from 31 countries across 36 sports. Most sports on the agenda are traditional Olympic events, plus Baseball/Softball, Basque Pelota, Beach Soccer, Racquetball, Roller Skating, and Squash.

Fun Fact: These quadrennial Games started in 1926 as the Central American Games, until expansion to include the Caribbean region in 1935. (Interestingly possible overkill - there is a separate Central American Games started in 1973, not to mention the Pan American Games)
