More: Uniquely focused on beach-related sports, this multi-sport event was inaugurated in 2008 by the Olympic Council of Asia to develop tourism as well as sport in the extended region. 168 events across 26 different sports, with an expected 45 nations participating. Host Thailand has been the dominant power over the Games' past three tournaments, with 102 medals overall compared to China's 82 and Indonesia's 78 for second and third places, respectively.
Fun Fact: (Um, what can not be fun about a beach game extravaganza??) Sports include such Olympic beach and water-based sports as Beach Volleyball, Sailing, and Triathlon - in addition to traditionally recreational beach sports such as Jet Skiing, Triathlon, Water Skiing and Flag Football, and Asian-centric ones like Beach Kabaddi, Beach Muay Thai, and Beach Kurash. These Games occur every two years.
