They Are The Champions: 2022 BMX Worlds

7/31/2022

Who Won the 2022 UCI BMX Racing World Championships?

Picture
Two new elite world champions were crowned today at the 2022 UCI BMX World Championships in Nantes, France. This was the 26th edition of the event, held since 1996, and the third to be held in France since 1995 (Vallet) and 2005 (Paris).

Simon Marquart's title in the men's senior elite race is the first for a Swiss, while Netherlands was denied a three-peat (Twan van Gendt won in 2019 and Niek Kimmann in 2021) after no Dutchman made it to the final race. Felicia Stancil became the third USA rider to win the women's elite race after Michelle Cairns (1997) and Alise Willoughby (2017 & 2019).

Congratulations to the winners! Complete results and news can be found online at nantes2022.com.

They Are The Champions: 2022 Canoe Slalom Worlds

Who Won The 2022 ICF Canoe Slalom World Championships?

Picture
Held at the 'world's first artificial whitewater course', Eiskanal, the 2022 ICF Canoe Slalom World Championships concluded today in Augsburg, Germany.

Augsburg also hosted the championships in 1957, 1985, and 2003 - as well as Munich 1972's slalom competition, marking the 50th anniversary of its Olympic debut.

From July 26, competition was held across ten canoe and kayak slalom events, including the soon-to-be Olympic discipline of 'extreme slalom' for the second time. 380 athletes from 70 nations competed.

Home favorites Team Germany topped the medal table with nine overall, including five gold. Congratulations to all the winners! Complete results can be found at canoeicf.com.

They Are The Champions: 2022 Modern Pentathlon Worlds

7/31/2022

Who Won the 2022 UIPM Pentathlon World Championships?

Picture
Just after hosting the World Fencing Championships, Egypt has just held another major global event with the 2022 UIPM Pentathlon World Championships in Alexandria.

Over 150 athletes from 35 nations competed in modern pentathlon individual and relay events from July 24 through today, marking the 61st edition of the multi-discipline event.

With a significant change looming in the structure of the sport for after Paris 2024, this Championship year is likely one of the last featuring the (newer) traditional format of fencing > swimming > riding (show jumping) > laser run (a combined run with shooting). Post-2024, an obstacle race is planned to replace the riding portion.

Until then, let's celebrate the 2022 modern pentathlon world champions! Ten different nations won at least one medal across the seven events - including Egypt, Turkey, Mexico, Great Britain, France, and others - all led by South Korea's two gold and four overall. It truly is (already) a global sport.

Complete results and coverage can be found online at uipmworld.org.

p.s. Let me know in the comments any other titles that should be added to the page.
