International gymnastics - and international sport in Japan - returned with the Friendship and Solidarity Competition in Tokyo. Highlights were the inclusion of "King" Kohei Uchimura, and top  Russians Nikita Nagornyy, Artur Dalaloyan, and Angelina Melinkova in the unique event. A model for Tokyo 2020?

A Little Roundup

9/3/2020

Australian sprinter Steve Solomon sums up nicely - and poignantly - some of the under-reported effects of the Tokyo 2020 postponement on athletes, in an op-ed for The Guardian. "There will be people who were getting the timing right for 2020 who won't in 2021. Form in one year does not gurantee form in the next...There will be athletes in the community that should have become Olympians. Because of Covid-19, they will never get that opportunity." Agreed, "that is absolutely heartbreaking".

The Irish Independent
checks in with Ciara Mageean as she completes a strong season on the track.

Two-time basketball gold medalist Angel McCoughtry tells the The New York Times her perspective on activism during the challenging environment of the season.

Adam Rippon recognizes the #BlackLivesMatter connection to Pride.

The first pride was a riot started by a black trans woman named Marsha P. Johnson. Because of black people in the LGBTQ+ community and their activism, I and so many others in our community, have been allowed to live our lives freely and openly and as we really are. #blacklivesmatter
