Who Won The 2024 World Athletics Cross Country Championships?
Note: while cross-country running is not an Olympic event - it should be! - it is common for long-distance track and road runners to cross-compete in the discipline.
In 2023's edition, Team Kenya took home four senior titles, including both team titles for men and women. Team Ethiopia tied the Kenyans for five overall senior medals. This time, though, the Kenyans took all six senior titles for 11 medals overall, including a sweep of the women's individual podium (and the top five women's placements!). Beatrice Chebet successfully defended her 2023 women's title as part of that Kenyan run, while Ugandan Tokyo 2020 medalist Jacob Kiplimo retained the men's title. Meanwhile, Team Great Britain was the only non East African medalist, with bronze in the mixed relay.
Congratulations to all 2024 medalists! A quick recap is below, and complete results and news can be found online at worldathletics.org.
