Give yourself a round of applause for all the things you go through that no one knows about, no one asks about, maybe no one cares about. Give yourself a round of applause for taking hit after hit after hit (sometimes literally) and finding a way to get back to your feet. Give yourself a round of applause for all the walls you’ve climbed when open doors were slammed in your face, for every dollar you earned after being cheated, every person you’ve loved after being broken. Give yourself a round of applause for showing up time after time after time. It’s a numbers game...our time will come as long as we stay in the game. Remember, I know what it feels like to know that your greatest accomplishment is something no one knows about. So take it from me...give YOURSELF a round of applause because YOU know. And if you want to or need to know that someone besides you gives a shit about your private victories, email me. We’ll celebrate together. ??

Ibithaj Muhammad votes.
View this post on Instagram

I voted because I wanted to show up for the migrant children who sit in detention centers separated from their families, because I believe in violence prevention rather than incarceration, because it’s time to end cash bail, ban choke holds, and put an end to qualified immunity. For anyone who felt angered seeing George Floyd’s life taken from him, who felt disheartened hearing the news of Breonna Taylor’s death, or the countless other Black lives that have been lost at the hands of police brutality, our first action was to protest, the second part of that is to vote. Be the change. Make a plan to vote □ #morethanavote #morethananathlete “O you who have believed, be persistently standing firm in justice, witnesses for Allah, even if it be against yourselves or parents and relatives. Whether one is rich or poor, Allah is more worthy of both.” [Quran, 4:135] □ @photographedbyaya
