Who Won The 2023 IHF Men's Handball World Championship?![]() The 2023 IHF World Men's Handball Championship ended today after more than two weeks of competition across nine cities in Poland and Sweden, with Stockholm hosting the final match. This was the 28th edition of the championship, and the first to be (co) hosted by Poland. Sweden, meanwhile had hosted four times prior - 1954, 1967, 1993, and 2011. 32 nations participated in the preliminary round starting on January 11; Team Denmark entered as the two-time defending champion. And, the Danes finished on top this year as well for their third straight world title to accompany their two Olympic medals from Rio 2016 (gold) and Tokyo 2020 (silver). This was the first three-peat in the history of the championship, and Team Denmark defeated their Olympic nemesis in Team France to do it. Congratulations to Team Denmark! In addition to the championship, the Danes also earned a qualification spot for Paris 2024. Who Won The FIH Hockey Men's World Cup 2023?![]() The 2023 FIH Hockey Men's World Cup concluded today after more than two weeks of competition in both Bhubaneswar and Rourkela, India. This was the 15th edition of the championship since 1971, and the fourth time that India has hosted. Bhubaneswar had also hosted the 2018 World Cup, in which Team Belgium defeated Team Netherlands in penalty kicks for the title. 16 national teams contested this 2023 championship: host Team India, and Teams Belgium, England, Germany, Netherlands, Spain, France, Wales, South Africa, Argentina, Chile, Japan, Malaysia, South Africa, South Korea, Australia, and New Zealand. In the end, Team Germany - ranked fourth in the world entering the tournament - scored a 3-3 (5-4) shootout win over second-ranked Team Belgium in the final to take their third-ever World Cup title. New father Niklas Wallen was named 'Player of the Match' for helping Team Germany comeback level in the title game. Team Netherlands finished third over Team Australia, 3-1 in the bronze medal match. Who Won The 2023 FIL Luge World Championships?![]() The 2023 FIL Luge World Championships concluded today a week's worth of competition in Oberhof, Germany and the Lotto-Thuringen Ice Arena. This is the fourth time that Oberhof has hosted the championships, having done so in 1973, 1985, and 2008 previously. Nine senior events were held across men's and women's singles and doubles, plus a mixed team relay. Four senior sprint titles (in which emphasis is on start reaction to a signal) were awarded, as well four junior titles. And...Team Germany dominated the competition on its home track, as expected - eight of nine gold medals, and 16 of 27 total. Team Austria's Jonas Muller won the men's singles title on the last day to break up the potential German sweep. The men's doubles team of Toni Eggert and Sacha Benecken was a triple gold medalist at these championships, while both Anna Berreiter and the women's doubles team of Jessica Degenhardt and Cheyenne Rosenthal both take home two golds.
