They Are The Champions: 2022 470 Sailing Worlds

Who Won Sailing's 2022 470 World Championships?

Picture
Sailing's 2022 470 World Championship gold medal competition essentially concluded today - despite a day left on the event's calendar -  after a week of action in Sdot Yam that saw Team German dominance. This is the fourth time Israel has hosted the championships, after Haifa in 1988 and 2015 and Tel Aviv in 1997. Next year - 2023 - the championships, however, will be part of the ISAF Sailing World Championships, which are held every four years for the specific Olympic-class sailing events.

For Paris 2024, the 470 moves to a mixed competition, after having had separate men's and women's events for the two-person dingy in previous Games.

Sixty national team boats were entered in Sdot Yam, each a pair of one male and one female - whether helm or crew. The defending mixed team champions from the 2021 edition in Vilamoura, Portugal were home favorites Gil Cohen and Noam Honri on 'Hakuna Matata', but 2022 belonged to Team Germany's Philipp Autenrieth & Luise Wanser, who wrapped up an insurmountable lead on the penultimate day of racing today.

Congratulations to the world champions! Complete results and coverage can be found online at 2022worlds.470.org - including the final results of who will finish second and third!
