They Are The Champions: 2024 Modern Pentathlon Worlds

6/16/2024

Who Won The 2024 UIPM Pentathlon World Championships?

Picture
The 2024 UIPM Pentathlon World Championships concluded today in Zhengzhou, China after a week of competition. This was the 63rd edition of the annual championships, and the second to be held in China, after 2010's Chengdu.

Entering 2024, Team Hungary's 144 medals (including 56 gold) led the overall historical table, followed by Team Poland's 71 (34). 36 total national teams have won at least one medal in championships history.

Similar to last year's competition in Bath, England, a separate laser run-specific championships was also held. This year, hometown Team China scored senior titles by Xiyao Wu, Zhenfeng Liu, and Shuai Luo.

More crucially, though, the focus in Zhengzhou was on pentathlon, with spots for both men and women available to qualify directly for Paris 2024. And, with the rankings qualification period ending after this event, crucial points were awarded for all athletes in each gender as well.

Teams South Korea and Hungary dominated the overall medal table, with seven and six medals each. Jun Woong-tae's four medals (including two golds) led individual rankings, while Hungarian athletes Balázs Szép and Blanka Guzi, and South Korean Seong Seung-mi won Paris 2024 qualification with their podium placements.

Congrats to all of the pentathlon world medalists! A quick recap is below and complete results can be found online at uipmworld.org.
