A Little Roundup 11.24.20

11/24/2020

Caeleb Dressel's two world records led the way for the Cali Condors as they won the International Swimming League's finals this weekend. This second season was certainly a welcome addition to the obliterated  sports calendar this year...will there be a third?

Slovakian Petra Vlhova was the star of the weekend at the FIS Alpine World Cup's return inLevi, Finland, as she won both slalom races - for five straight looking back to last season. Congrats as well to the anticipated return of U.S. star Mikaela Shiffrin, finishing second and fifth in her own successful return.

Bobsled & Skeleton also had its season opener this weekend, and bobsled also featured a double winner...driver Francesco Friedrich took both 2-man races, with compatriot Johannes Lochner a close second in each.

And on the skeleton side of news...un-retired U.S. star John Daly started his national team comeback with wins at the team trials.

Chinese dominance continued at table tennis, as Ma Long and Chen Meng record historic wins to end the season at the ITTF Finals.

Silver medalist Pavlo Tymoschenko sounds the alarm on the rationale of likely changes to the Olympic modern pentathlon format. Of course, for every concerned voice, there's a support voice. I know it's an odd sport with a contrived origin, but I like the idea of its well-established integration into the Games. As far as modifications, are the athletes ever asked?

The New York Times investigates the dangers of skeleton racing via the injury derailment of Ellie Furneaux's once-promising career.

Long jumper Tajay Gayle recounts his world championship jump from 2019 for Spikes.

World Athletics announces track legends Ato Boldon and Sanya Richards-Ross as cohosts of the World Athletics Awards 2020 next month.

Tokyo 2020 features double Rio 2016 medalist Sun Yiwen, and her ambitions to keep improving her epee fencing technique for even more success.

Oliver Dingley doesn't want Rio 2016 to be his only Olympic experience, as the diver looks to get qualification for next year's Games back on track.
