On this day in 1896, Spiridon Louis □□ won Europe’s first ever gold medal in athletics at the modern Summer Olympic Games. He won the marathon which took place on a 40km course from Marathon to Athens in 2:58 and was greeted by 60,000 fans inside the Panathenaic Stadium! #athletics #marathon #run #runner #running #olympics #instasport
