She's the new American all-time champ at the Worlds! Quite an accomplishment for someone just in her second year of senior-level competition. With Simone Biles' success at the World Championships this week with four golds, she becomes only the second American to retain the title, after Shannon Miller - and overtakes Miller as well as the American with the most golds ever in Worlds competition, with six now including her two from 2013. Biles now has nine total medals at the Worlds in just two years, and sets herself up as the one to watch for Rio 2016.
Those Games, though, are two years away still, and often that is an eternity in women's gymnastics with competitors particularly challenged to stay at the top during their teen years, and able to hold off younger juniors coming up. But Biles doesn't seem to show any signs of slowing down for now, with her almost complete dominance in winning three of five possible individual golds and five total medals out of six. I'm excited to see what's next for her. (And excited that she's to be a Bruin!)
