Iâve been silent recently as Iâve been taking some time to listen and learn more about what is currently happening. Iâve been digging in to understand why in the past I was ok staying silent on issues that I truly believe in like the #blacklivesmatter movement and equality for all. Even though I believe that every person despite race, color, or sexual orientation are equal, I now understand that this alone does not change or solve the inequalities that marginalized groups of people face. Internally I have struggled to find a voice that matches how deeply I feel and at times itâs been overwhelming. I now see that it doesnât matter what that voice is as long as it is a voice aiming for change. Even if that voice is going to fuck it up at times, thatâs ok too. The goal isnât to be perfect and get it right on the first try, it's about openly creating meaningful dialogue and collaboration to learn, move forward and grow. I am here to listen, I am here to learn, and I am expecting more of myself and of everyone around me. Black Lives DO matter, I am ready to be a part of the change. Racism is a belief that can be abandoned. It needs to be extracted from our institutions and the systems that ultimately perpetuate racial inequality.
