On Friday, the Games of the XXXI Olympiad finally began, and despite near constant criticism and fears of zika-bearing mosquitoes, security and safety, construction delays, budget overruns, and political strife, the pared-down and simple Opening Ceremonies went off without a hitch, opening the Games and officially starting competition. The first action came from Sweden vs South Africa in women's football while the first medal of them all went to a teenager, Virginia Thrasher of the U.S., in the women's air rifle event. Since, we've had world records in swimming, archery, and shooting, and major crashes and upsets in cycling and tennis. Let the drama continue!
