Who Are the Rugby World Cup Sevens 2022 Champions?
Both New Zealand's men and women's teams entered the World Cup as two-time defending champions, and both would make the title matches this year, too. The men's gold medal match featured the All Blacks against the two-time Olympic champions from Fiji, with Team Fiji taking the gritty but emphatic win, 29-12 for their first title since 2005. Team Ireland improved from 2018's ninth place to take the bronze medal.
On the women's side, all three medalists from 2018 made the podium again, but with Team Australia on top this time, defeating Team New Zealand's Black Ferns 24-22 in a tight match. The Australians also won this year's Commonwealth Games and World Series titles. Team France dropped to third-place after 2018's World Cup second-place finish.
