Who Won The 2023 ICF Canoe Slalom World Championships?
The 2023 ICF Canoe Slalom World Championships concluded today after competition that started on September 19th in Lee Valley, England. Having been the site of canoe slalom at the London 2012 Olympics, Lee Valley also hosted the Worlds Championships in 2015. (The United Kingdom also hosted the 1995 and 1981 editions.)
2023 marked the 43rd edition of the annual (sans Olympic years) worlds. Team France entered Lee Valley as the all-time medal table leader, with 156 overall. This year, though, host Team Great Britain took top honors with eight overall and five golds to lead the medal table. Eleven national teams won at least one medal across the ten events, including Teams France, Australia, Czech Republic, and others...including Morocco.
Competition was held in five events each for men and women, across both canoe and kayak disciplines. Lee Valley 2023 also served as a global qualifier to the Paris 2024 Games. Highlights included star Jessica Fox taking her 14th career world title and three overall medals, double individual gold for Joseph Clarke, and a double (one individual and one team) for Mallory Franklin.
