Who Won The 2023 FIBA Basketball World Cup?
32 national teams qualified for the World Cup tournament, including defending champion from 2019 Team Spain, and 2019 bronze medalist Team France. Entering 2023, both Team United States and Team Yugoslavia had five titles each, with the USA leading the overall medal count at 12 to the Yugoslavs' 10.
2023 turned into a remarkable tournament - Team France failed to make the second round, and Teams Spain and Australia did not make the elimination rounds. And after being on the losing end of two of the most exciting games in FIBA history - in the semifinals and then in the third-place game - Team USA ended up fourth.
In the end, it was 11th-ranked Team Germany that went undefeated and winning its first-ever title, culminated with a 83-77 win over Team Serbia. Team Canada completed a surprising podium, with its bronze medal win over Team USA, 127-118 in overtime.
Earning qualification to Paris 2024 based on continental standings in the tournament were Teams Germany, Serbia, Canada, USA, Australia, South Sudan (!), and Japan.
