Who Won The 2023 IBA Women's World Boxing Championships?
Controversy certainly surrounded this edition. After the International Boxing Association announced that Russian and Belarusian athletes would be able to compete, and under their own national marks and flags - despite the general on-going ban in international sport, a wave of boycotts hit the tournament - including from Teams United States, Canada, Netherlands, Ireland, Poland, Norway, Lithuania, Great Britain, Czech Republic, Sweden, Switzerland, and, of course, Ukraine.
And, that drama came alongside the IBA's announcement of its own Paris 2024 qualification outline, including using this tournament, despite the International Olympic Committee having already stripped the IBA of any authority in qualification.
Other controversies plaguing the tournament, aside from usual judging oddities, included (very) late disqualifications of two athletes for 'eligibility' failures and the politically-tinged withdrawal of Team Kosovo.
In the end, the tournament proceeded with a total prize purse of $2.4 million U.S. across its 12 weight categories, not all of which are to be included at Paris 2024. Host Team India scored four golds, while Team China finished with seven overall medals and Team Kazakhstan six. 20 nations had at least one.
