Who Won The 2023 World Taekwondo Championships?
The 2023 World Taekwondo Championships concluded today after a week's competition in Baku, Azerbaijan. This was the 26th edition of the championships, and the first time in Eastern Europe other than Chelyabinsk (Russia) 2015. This championships also falls on the 50th anniversary of the World Taekwondo federation.
Competition included events across eight weight divisions for both men and women. Team South Korea entered these championships as the all-time medal table leader, with 244 to second-place Team Spain's 116.
This edition, Team South Korea topped the gold medal chart, tied with Team Tirkey at three champions each. 24 national teams won at least one medal out of the 64 total on offer. Individual champions Park Tae-joon (Finweight) and Merve Dincel (Flyweight) also won 'Most Valuable Athlete' awards.
