Who Won the 2023 WTA Finals?
Caroline Garcia was the surprise 2022 champion, but did not qualify for the 2023 edition. Instead, the top eight singles players to participate included Aryna Sabalenka, Iga Świątek, Coco Gauff, Jessica Pegula, Elenda Rybakina, Ons Jabeur, Marketa Vondrousova (Tokyo 2020 silver medalist), and Maria Sakkari (replacing Karolina Muchova).
The eight doubles team qualified were Pegula & Gauff, Storm Hunter & Elise Mertens (who was the defending champion with Veronika Kudermetova), Shuko Aoyama & Ena Shibahara, Barbora Krejcikova & Katerina Siniakova (Tokyo 2020 champions), Desirae Krawczyk & Demi Schuurs, Laura Siegemund & Vera Zvonareva, Gabriela Dawbrowski & Erin Routiffle, and Nicole Melichar-Martinez & Ellen Perez.
After a tumultuous overall event for the WTA, Świątek (over Pegula in two sets) and Siegemund & Zvonareva (over Melichar & Perez in two sets) earned the championship titles, the first for all.
